W. Abotomey v. E. O’Donoghue
yuite a c> o*d of billiard enthusiasts assembled at Mclnmans’ Domain Saloon last Tuesday evening to witness a match between Mr W. Abotomey (N.S.W. professional champion) and the local champion, Mr E. O’Donoghuo. The local man was conceded 150 in a game of 700 up. O'Donoghue opened up well and soon ran to 203, but then he completely lot-t his form—so much Sj that by the time ho was 221 Abotomey wmt to 70, atd on to 197. From then on the respective scores were (at various stages) 240-171, 240—196, 256 284, 264-317, 264-339, 276—386, 276-432, 294-494, 269—522, 318 —648, 344—648, aud then Abotomey went out with an.nnfinislied break of 52 Hia best breaks were 122, 76, 64, 47, 43, 35, 29, 28 and 25. O'Donoghuo’s best breaks were 26, 26,19, 19,15, 15, and 12 Abotomey’s average per visit to the table was just over 23. After tho game the wiuuer cougratulxted his opponent, and also Mr H. PeterseD, who had specially prepared Ihe table. The champion said the table was a remarkably good one, and was a treat to play upon. Mr Abotomey demonstrated a number of exhibition shots, confioing himself mainly to shots that are rust with from time to time in ordinary games. The display was most interesting.
