Frozen Meat—Wcthtr mutton is in good demand. Prospects for lamb are good. Beef is in better demand. Advice nnder date 9t’n iest., states :—The butter market is unsteady. Current quotation : —l2Bs to 130 s per cwt Latest advice received from London, under date 10th iust. : —The wool sales have opened with strong competition and a largo attendance of buyers. There is an active demand from all branches of the trade. The market has advanced as follows : Course crossbreds 4d per lb. Medium crossbreds fd, Id, per lb Fiuo crossbreds 14 l p-r lb Halfbrede and merinos 2d per lb.

Hikutaia Stock Sale Tlio yarding of stock at the Hikutaia yards ou Wednesday last (the day of the stock sale) mas oue of the smallest recorded for many years. Very few buyers were present. Less than a d> zen head ot dairy stock was yarded, imne of which was sold under the hammer. The highest of the few bids for this class of stock was £4 10s, which was offered for a dairy cow valued by her owuer at £l2.

There wa-s ouly a small yarding of beef and store stock. A few dozen head of stock under two years old was yarded, but very little of the latter was disposed of. The prices for fat stock show a rather marked improvement on tho-e real ised at. previous sales, this being accounted for no d >uht by th hutches depleted stocks after the holidays. Fu bullocks made ft'-m £5 6s up to £6 15s, fat steam made up to £5 ss, fat cows realised from £2 10s up to £4 10s, stoie cows made up to £2 7s 6d, store steers made up to £2 LOs, yearling heifers made 15s and 10i.

There was a very small yarding of pigs, very poor prices being realised. Porkers made £1 1 Os, slip realised 7s and Bs, smnll store pigs 7s and 9s, weaners 6s 6d, 6s, 9s, ss, 8s and Lis.

The number of sheep yarded was the largest for over ten months, but owing to few buyers being present no very high pricss were obtaiued Breeding ewes mad 3 5s to 9s, wethers made up to 11s 6d, fat lambs (uushorn) made 14s 5d to 17s, lambs (unshorn) made lis 9d and lambs (shorn) realised 9s to 10s. Hamilton Stock Sale The Farmers’ Co.op. Auctioneering 00. Ltd , report : At Hamilton on Tuesday, January 10, our yarding of Bheep and cattle was small. The change of sale day from Thursday to Tuesday was partly responsible for this. No fat cattlo were pen-red. The advertised line of empty cows which was extremely well bred drew fair competition, the best realising from £2 7s to £2 11s. Speaking generally, bidding was brisker and cattle of any class could have been placed at improved values. Sheep were also in short supply, fat wethers fetching 13s 7d for rather coarse quality Ewes (well fatted) 10s 6d, fat lambs (good) 15s 3d to 16s 4d. Pigs were penned in full number, but competition was duller than anything so tar experienced,. Baconers made from 37s 6d to £2 ss, porkers 20s to 30s slips 5s to 11s, weaners ss.
