Dairying Exports
Big Increase In Butler Production Tho annual dairying returns for the past year, which ended on July last, show a marked increase in butter production, due in a large measure to the fact that pastoralists turned to dairying when tho bottom dropped out of the wool and meat markets The following figures show the actual quantity sent out of the grading stores for shipment during the dairying year, from August 1, 1920, to July 31, 1921: Butter. —630,894 cwt. (previous year, 281,161 ewt.) Chee5e—1,364,673 cwt. (previous year, 1,387,693 cwt) The quantities received into the stores for grading during the year were as follows : Butter.—69l,2ol cwt. (previous year, 380,051). Cheese.—l,ll6,97o cwt. (orevious year, 1,268,571) The fact that this was lees than the amount shipped was due to the fact that there was a big quantity in store in August, 1920, when the season opened. The amount in store at that date was tstimated at, roughly, 350,000 cwt. THE PRESENT SEA ON The figures for the present season, datmg from August 1 up to November 30, 1921, also show a large increase ia butter production, and a corresponding falling off in the volume of cheese handled.
