SOMETHING OF WHAT IS BEING DONE 300,000 men in the navy and army are being helped each week. 100,000 men attend service held for their behalf at the front. 50 motor ambulances arc in constant usp, wholly manned by Salvationists. Each car will accomodate 8 men. Many of these cars have to be replaced at once. Over 150,000 men have been canied. 143 refreshments huts and recreation huts. 77 hostels and hutments have beru built in England and France, con. tabling appioximately £200.000. More are required at once. 070 officers aie wholly employed in war work, also 10,000 other work]* ers. Staff.Captaiu Mary Booth has 20 typistes constantly at work dealing with our inquiry work in France. By this means thousands of friends are constantly informed concerning their boys at the front. Also regarding the whereabouts of the graves in this direction. 50,000 food parcels have been supplied to British War Prisoners in Germany. These parcels have been sent through our headquarters in Holland, Denmark and Sweden. They have over 60 war orphans in New Zealand in car Boys’ and Girls' Homes. The need in this direction will probably become more acute. 2060 acres of land has been donated at Putaruru ; this will be made into an agricultural training farm for our own and Allies’ orphans. Boys will be trained as farmers and the girls as domestics. 100,000 service men-housed nightly in our hostels. 300,000 soldiers are catered for weekly in our various institutions. At Rotorua they have provided an up-to-date soldiers’ iustitute with everything free. Recently in one week 836 morning and afternoon teas and suppers were served. A motor launch and motor car are also provid- d for the men.
