CENEftAL MEEIINC A meeting of the above Chamber was held on Monday evening, the acting president, Mr 0. Rayner, presiding. The attendance was fair. The Town Clerk acknowledged the Chamber’s representations re the lighting of the traffic bridge and approaches, and intimated that the matter had been referred to the Electric Light Committee. Members discussed the practice of drivers of vehicles and horses traveling at a dangerous pace over the traffic bridgo, and the hope was expressed that the police would take action. As the Chamber had drawn attention to the matter last month it was decided to await farther results.
The treasurer, Mr A. J. Graham, reported sufficient cash in hand, by donations, to pay for the special advertising authorised in the last Christmas number of the Auckland Weekly iNews. Mr J. D. Mackay called attention to the proposed closing of Messrs Gordon and Sweeney's large stables, and he wondered if the people had considered what was to be done to accommodate farmers' horses while the ownors were transacting business in the town. He suggested that a municipal horse bazaar, similar to that at Hamilton, would be a good business proposition for the town,
Mr Andrews agreed, and believad tho Hamilton Horse Bazaar was a good paying proposition. Mr A. J. Graham's offer of his office premises for meetings wab gladly accepted.
A sincere vote of thanks was accorded the Piako County Council for the use of the meeting room that had been placed at the service of the Chamber free of cost for the past three or four years. Letters,of sympathy are to be forwarded toilajor A. A. Tattorsall and Mr F. W. Wild, who have recently sustained bereavements.
Mr Rayner briefly thanked the members for their expression of confidence in appointing him ' acting president during the absence on active service of the president, Mr J. P. Kirby, and he indicated that it would be his endeavor to conduct the meetings on business lines, and he asked for the co-operation of all members in his endeavor. (Applause). It was decided that the secretary’s honorarium be paid up to the time of his vacating office.
