Mr Serpell during his sermon at the Masterton Methodist Church on Sunday morning. “If anyone uses this expression to you, ram it down their throats. I was. travelling in the train the other day,’’he continued “ and I heard an individual referring to someone as a wowser. I went up to him and said, ‘.lf you consider the person who absents himself from the racecourse, he who does not get drunk and lives a clean life, a wowser, then I am pleasdd to say I am one.’ Hurl it back at them every time.” A motoring tour which must con* stitute something of a record was recently completed by a lady motorist only 19 years of age (says the “ Poverty Bay Heralds”) Accom-panied-by her elderly io father and mother and her sister, she motored from Kaikoura to Gisborne. The first stage of the' journey. Kaikoura to Blenheim, is an ordinary 100 miles’ run. From Wellington the party travelled via Palmerston. The overland journey from Napier to Gisborne, probably one of the earliest of the season, occupied two days. The roads were found to be very rough, and the visitors underwent the experience of getting bogged on the Wharerata Hill.
