DEFENCE OF NISH

SERBIANS FIGHT TO THE LAST Athens, November 8 A Bucharest message states that defence of Nish was one of the most heroic of the war. The Serbians were outnumbered by five to one by General Bojadieff’s troops, whose rapid advance was a masterpiece'of generalship. The Serbians fought to the last, and few prisoners were taken. The Bulgarians entering Nish marched for three miles over ground covered with Serbian dead and wounded. Fifteen thousand Bulgarians were killed. General Jekoff, Bulgarian Com-mander-in-Chief, telegraphed to M. Radoslavoff, the Premier, as follows: “ The Bulgarian flag has -been hoisted for ever over the fortress of Nish.” There were rejoicings in Germany over the fall of Nish. Flags were everywhere flown. Prdpara-

tions are being made to run an Orient express from Berlin to., Constantinople, when the bridge at Belgrade has been rebuilt. *
