BOWLING

THE ROLAND CUP The opening Tournament for the Roland Pairs Cup was commenced in Te Aroha on Saturday morning, three teams from Te Aroha, two each from Karangahake and Paeroa, and one from Morrinsville competition. Before play commenced the President, Mr J. A. Clothier, and donor, Mr D. Roland addressed the competitors stating that they sincerely hoped that the Cup would be the cause of many good games and keen competition. Mr Roland also stated that, although not an active bowler, he took a great interest in the game, and would follow keenly the competing. The Tournament consisted of three rounds and the final between the winners of A. and B Sections- At mid-day the visiting bowlers were entertained to lunch at the Hot Springs Hotel by Dr. Inglis. The teams were :—Te Aroha : Dalton and Morrison, Maingay and Clothier, Buchan and Bygrave Karangahake, Jury and Hilton, McLean and Dean.

Paeroa, Towers and HagueSmith, Evett add Shaw Morrinsville, Petersen and Jephcoate. The following are the results of the games played: — A Section, Ist Round: —Towers 17 v. Deane 8, Dalton 18 v. Peterson 12. Second Round; Dalton 11 v Deane 13, Towers 15 v Petersen 7. Third Round; Dalton 20 v Towers 19, Deane 16 v Peterson 13. B Section, First Round ; Jury 17 v Evett 7, Maingay 24 v Buchan 6. Second Round, Buchan 20 v Evett 9, Jury 15 v Maingay 10. Third Round; Evett 18 v Maingay 10, Jury 18 v Buchan 15. In B Section, Jury was successful in winning all his matches thus qualifying to meet the winners of A Section in the fi:ah

Three pairs gained two wins each in A section necessitating two section tie games of 7 heads each. Dalton defeated both Deane and Towers, and will play Jury for the final, on a date to be arranged, time not allowing of the game being played on Saturday.

Inter-Club Match —Te Aroha v. Karangahake— An inter-club match was played between the Te Aroha and Karangahake clubs in the afternoon, four full rinks from each club taking part. The games were keenly fought, and the results close. The Te Aroha club was successful by 14 points on the aggregate. The teams and scores were Burrett, Watson, Mick, Hankins (skip) 28 v. Tucker, Farrell, Mason, Dobson (skip) 20; Brown, Ross, G. Clothier, Wallace (skip) 25 v. Wilson. Andrews, Neil, Waddell (skip) 17; Trewheela, J. Heathcote, J. Cumming, Arthur (skip) 10 v. Phillips Lewin, Hayward, Christie (skip) 22 ; W. Everett, Mann, P. Heathcote, Simson (skip) 24 v. Gallagher, Kemp, Williams, Hill (skip) 14. The record of the Te Aroha Club, in inter club matches this S3ason is ; 3 wins, 1 tie, and 1 loss. The clubs defeated are Morrinsville, Hamilton, Karangahake. The tie was the result of a visit to Hamilton Club, whilst Paeroa inflicted a defeat at Paeroa.
