: The entertainment "last,* ven ins? hy ; . the Valerie Collins Company , certainly ranked,as one of.the ever given in Te ' Arnhn && genuinely appreciated . and representative Valeria Collins,- as , note, and whois, acknbwl edged td V* be m the forefront of 7 ew Zealand ♦* vocalists prcved* to be'all that was claimed for her In every respect,' her voice being of a distinctly high '' order of merit, with that purity of tone that would be indeed difficult to surpass, of exceptional range and J power, while her enunciation ia/iri&sjS markably clears Added to Miss Valerie Collins has a most %£ efectii e .style, and a decidedly pleasing manner that fail to win the Jiigh apprecidtibn of the most critical audiences. Her vocal items, were ohe and all, perfect treats to listen to, the genis of th& evening “My Dear Soul,” and a 1 “ A,,a Stella;,Confidenta.:” drawing forth high commendation,.'resulting in encore items being called for# * each occasion. The vocal duVt “ Nocturne ”, by Miss Collins ‘aud Mr Ripley was beautifully sung, and thedoud applause that followed * testified to the manner in which ( the vocalists had pleaded; their hearers. If Miss favours Te Aroha with aVvisitTn the near future, we are of . the opinion that the audience dn the occasion as ; regards numberS.would be even more worthy W such a singer, as country residefifa would be present in addition to all those who were enabled to listen to such a high-class programme as presented last evening. Mr J. McLean, a baritone of splendid range and tone was heard to advautage in his sougs, aud he had to respond to recalls, while Mr A. H. Ripley,' the possessor of a undoubtedly pure tenor voice, and who deservedly JR ranks as a premier singer contf If buted several items most effectively - . They were certainly much enjoyed, as were also his encore items. Master Frank Parsons, the violinist, is a player of a high standard; *nd ' his solos “La Cygre,” “'Polaccaf and “ Souvenir,” were executed in a manner that betokened the real artist. Miss Calipso Brook, piauiste, acted as accompanist throughout m a most artistic manner. This evening the Company will appear at Thames, and to-morrow at Paeroa, where they! should 'he greeted by large audiences./' ' .• '
