MORE IMPORTANT CHANGES. MERGING DEPARTMENTS. Wellington, March 18. The Times states that the Tourist Department will be taken over by the Railways and controlled by the Chief Traffic manager, Mr Buxton. Industries and Commerce will be separate from the Tourist and merged with the Agricultural Department, the head of which will be Mr T. McKenzie. After the retirement of Mr Humphries, the SurveyorGeneral, his department will be absorbed by the Lands. Prisons will become a branch of the Justice, and State Fire and Accident will be permanently amalgamated with the Government Life Insurance. In all fourteen new departments have been created since 1891, but most of these will be readjusted and merged in others.
