MORRINSVILLE

The rain which has fallen during the past few days was much needed, though as yet it has not penetrated very far below tht, surface. Early on Sunday morning a thundersti rm passed over portions of the distiicf, unfortunately it was very local not reaching more than a mile from the town in some directions.

The meeting of those interested in forming a Y.M.C.A here was held on Monday evening and was largely attended. A strong finance Committee was elected, Mr Charles Manuel wrote offering a section of land either inMoorehouse-street or Canada.-street, and there is every appearance of the movement being a success. The Local Oddfellows Lodge, held their ordinary meeting on Tuesday evening, when another candidate was initiated and several others proposed. After Lodge business was concluded the members and their friends were hospitably entertained by the Noble Grand Bro. C. Gummer, and a very enjoyable evening was spent, members assisting with sones, while (the selections from Bro. Gummer’s splendid graphaphone was much appreciated, while the tasty supper provided received every attention, The local cricketers paid a visit to Matimata on Wednesday as a return t) the match played here early in the season, the report of which will appear in Saturday’s issue. The Town Board’s workmen are at present busy filling in the hollow near Pickett’s Ltd. store, which will much improve the footpath to the railway station, it being greatly used.
