AUCKLAND RIFLE MATCH. LIST OF PRIZES. Tjkentham, March 9. The riflemen started on their day’s work at eight o’clock this morning to complete the final stages for the Auckland match (600yds), Otago match (800yds), and to fire a couple of teams’ matches ; sectional firing 500 and 600 yards, 10 rounds at each range, and rapid firing match. 600 yards, 10 sho's. The first two matches finished four out of the five matches from which the fifty highest aggregates are to be chosen for the Champion Belt. There is a blue sky, hot sun, and a smart breeze mainly a ft w degrees to the left rear characterised the weather conditions, but some feature or other of them did not fit in with the requirements of the competitors, for the shooting was by no means as brilliant as had been the case on the previous four days. 'i he Auckland and Otago final stages were fired simultaneously from the Collins, Sommerville, and feddon ranges, and were completed übout 2 p.m. At the 600 yards range (Auckland) no ipossibles v r ere registered, aud the match was won by James, of Napier, whose range score at each range was “ all but,” thus aggregating 98, remarkably fine shooting. Dewar (Oamaru), Guy (Kaponga), and E. Shaw (Auckland) came next, each with two points short of the winner. A tricky breeze made the sht otinp of some of the crack marksmen iu and out, and the same applies to the shooting at 900 yards. The Otago match was won by Storkey, of N apier, who put up 46 at this range and a possible at 800 yards, 96 aggregate. Two possibles were achieved at this range, Clye (Waikari) and Maingay (Piako) being credited with them. Guy (Nelson) has w'on the Union Company’s Cup with a general aggregate in the Auckland, Wellington and Nelson matches of 280.
