GOLDFIELDS CHALLENGE BADGES. A MEETING of delegates to consider the advisability of procuring _ badges for challenge competition confined to rinks drawn from the Thames, Paeroa, Karangahake, Te Aroha, and Waihi Clubs, was held in the Paeroa Club on Saturday. The following Clubs were represented : Te Aroha (Mr Burton), Waihi (Mr Benge), Thames (Mr McWatters, proxy), Paeroa i(Mr McWatterß. A letter was received from the president of the Karangahake Club endorsing the proposal. . Mr Benge was voted to the chair. It was resolved that the proposal of the Paeroa Bowling Club to institute competition for challenge badges be approved Mr Burton moved that four gold stars of the value of £2 10s each 'be procured and called the Thames Valley and Goldfields Stars, the cost of same to be borne in equal preportions by competing clubs. , This was seconded by Mr Benge and carried. It was resolved that the controlling authority be a committee consisting, of one delegate from each of the competing clubs, the Paeroa delegate to be secretary of committee. The following rules governing the competitions were then adopted : (1) Badges not to be won outright, but to remain the property of the competing clubs. (2) Compel ition for badges to be by full rinks.

(3) Holders of badges to be responsible for the care and good order of the same. Should any be lost or damaged it shall be replaced by the person responsible for its care. (4) Badges to be held in first in stance by winning rink in a tournament held in Paeroa on (if possible) Saturday, March 20th. (5) Entries for tournament to be limited to eight rinks, one rink at least to be sent by each club. (6) After the badges are won they are to be held by the winners until such time as they are defeated by a rink from another of the competing clubs. (7) All competitions to be held .on the green of the holders for the time being. ’ i;(8) Challenges to be lodged with secretary, who will forthwith notify holders of the issue of the challenge, and the game must be played within a week. If challengers do not play challenge to lapse. If holders do not play they lose by default and forfeit badges, which are to be sent to the secretary, who shall transfer same to challengers. (9) Holders shall wear badges during the progress of every challenge match. (10) On conclusion of game holders, if defeated, shall immediately hand over badges to winners. (11) A defeated rink will not be eligible to play again within 14 days. (12) Secretary shall notify challenges to holders in the order in which they are received.

(13) In the case of illness or unavoidable absence of any competitor his place may be taken by a substitute. (14) In the event of one of the holders retiring from team, the remaining members of the rink may appoint another player, to whom the badge shall be transferred.
