The Band Contest.
Hastings, Saturday. The attendance at the band contest last night, when the final test was played, exceeded that at the first test, the gates respectively being £ll2 and £lls. The final test selections were the bands’ own choice, and the judge commended the work done. The grand aggregate is as follows : —A grade : Wanganui, 416 points, first (£IOO, 25 silver and gold medals, and the i Besson shield); Newton, 391 1-5, seeond (£45); Palmerston, 372 1-5, third (£2O). B. grade: Petone, 362 2-5, first (£3O and the Boosey shield); Hastings, 348 3-5, second (£10); Gisborne, 345, third (£sj. The total receipts from all sources were £690.
