' THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT.
At the Piako County Couucil meeting yesterday, in reply to letter from Council, the General Manager wrote as follows : —Hamilton, 22nd February, 1909 “We are anxious to meet your Council’s desire for early and final settlement, but until the various titles are all registered, we are not in a position to do so I may say that the necessary easement clause has been consented to by ne irly all purchasers concerned, but some very few are stilt unsigned. Our Te Aroha manager has particulars of these aud we will be only too glad of any assistance in the way of getting them signed. Upon such full signatures being obtained a further substantial payment will be made by the Bank, and we will get all the titles registered a > early as possible so as to enable a final settlement.
The Chairman said the Bank were keeping things at a standstill, and the letter just read was very unsatisfactory. The Bank agreed to pay as soon as the titles were registered, now only a “ further substantial payment” will be made. He failed to understand the Bank’s action in the matter.
Cr Manuel said the understanding first entered into was good enough for ordinary people, but with such unscrupulous people as the Bank manager and Chairman of Directors it did not appear to hold good. The Chairman further stated that he would not have believed it of such an institution as the Bank of New Zealand, only that he had seen it with “ his own eyes.” They had gone back on their own word.
It was unanimously resolved that the Clerk write pointing out the urgency of the work, and asking that the full amount be paid as soon as the titles were registered.
