PREFERENCE AMONGST VOL UNTEERS.

A new regulation has been gazetted fixing the following order of precedence amongst the various, branches of the defence forces : ; 1. Permanent staff.

2. Coast defence force, i.e., Roval Zealand Engineer's, volunteer garrison New Zealand Artillery, Royal New artillery, volunteer submarine miners. 3. Active field force, i.e., field artillery, field engineers, mounted rifles, infantry (including cyclists and signalling corps), army service corps, medical corps, field' hospital and bearer corps, veterinary corps. 4. Reserves, i.e., reserve corps, defence cadets, defence rifle clubs. Mounted corps, when mounted, will take precedence in order, viz., mounted rifles, field! artillery. The militia, when Unbodied, will rank after the permanent forces. Bands will rank as (a) garrison bands (b) battalion bands.
