WED IN THE AIR. Twenty Thousand See the Ceremony.
A dkspatch from the 'Chronicle,' Manchester (N. H.), of August 29th says:— Standing in the velvet-lined car of Professor J. K. Allens big balloon this afternoon, pretty Addie Brooks and sturdy Joseph Boyd were made one. Speaker Upton of the new Hampshire Legislature performed the ceremony. Twenty thousand people were on the grounds to view the novel spectacle of a bridal trip in a balloon. It was the largest number of people ever gathered within an enclosed place in the State. The balloon hung directly over a platform built in the centre of the race track. Preceded by a platoon of police, a landau containing the bridal pair had been driven i through the crowd to the platform. ! _ The bride was attired in a stylish travel- ! ling costume of drab, and' carried a j bouquet. She is slightly below the medium i height, with a pleasing figure and a fair complexion. She is 21, and her father is | the village blacksmith in the town of Bed- ! ford. 'A '1%, gr00m,, Joseph B. Boyd, wore a "black cutaway, coat and light trousers. He 4s 26, an Ehglish'man, and works in the Amoskeag Mills. Speaker Upton concluded the marriage ceremony with some excellent advice to the husband and wife. Then Professor Allen and a reportor entered the car, the ropes were cut, and up they went. The fair bride leaned over, waving her handkerchief, and thousands of waving handkerchiefs answered her. The great balloon moved steadily towards the west, and in twenty minutes was out of sight. This is the third ' balloon bridal trip ' that has taken place in the United States. The management of the fair gave the couple $200, and the leading business men have given them a splendid housekeeping outfit. The balloon descended at Gaffstown at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, and the newly-married couple returned to their home in a carriage.
" Rosaline, do you know whafc people here are saying ?" " No, mother. What ?" •'That you are going to marry Mr van Antwerp." "How ridiculous., Did you ever know a girl to marty.the man to whom she became engaged at a summer resort ?"
