CITY REPS Y. CITY PLAYERS.

This interesting match took place on Friday evening, I,3th February, in the Perambulator Factory, Victoiia-street Ea»t, kindly leni by Mr Smith for the occasion. Each team numbered thirteen, bub one of the reps not rolling up only twelve a-side were played, it being agreed that the other two should play when they could meet, and their scoie be added to the present one. Ie "will be seen that the match was a very close one, the Pla3 r eis winning by one game, and the other four games yeo to be played may increase this lead, or give the Reps a win instead of defeat as the scoie now stands. As in all contests of strength or skill, so with this, some are dissatisfied with the result, and already a return match hi talked of, which we hope will come oft, provided it is entered into in an amicable spirit, and that the result w ill nob be dissension and strife. We are gl id to see so much interest in the game, and lutso that practice and such contests as this will pioduce in Auckland draught placers abls to h id theii own with any in the colony, and who knows but there may be a " Heitl Laddie" in embryo amono u» '' The following ate the names of players aud theii scoies :—: —

Game No. 97.— " Glasgow."

Game No. 98.— "01 d Fourteenth."

(a) This move loses. (b) White should draw after this bad play, but if I had played 10-18 it was an easy win. After a lot of play MrGrubb made a slip, giving me three for two, and the game. — R.B.

The " Sydney Referee " says : The Belvideres have, since Fred Burton went back to Melbourne, felt the need of a wicketkeeper badly, and the bowlers have been severely handicapped thereby. However, W. Gardiner, a new wicket-keeper from New Zealand, will play with them, and, as he bears a good reputation, his pre&ence should materially strengthen the eleven.
