A Letter from Santa Claus.
My Dear Little Friends, — I did not; think I should have time to write to you, for really the children have all been so good since I filled their stockings last Christmas that I have had to buy double the number of toys this year. And then, •just as if it was to be, because my load is' so heavy, Mrs Santa Claus is laid up with a bad cold. You see we always hide ourselves in a cloud when we go out to fill the stockings, and as we have such large bags to carry this time we had to lay in an extra amount of fog, and I fancy it has made the house damp. I hope you will all be in bed early, to give me a chance of getting my work done and returning to my poor wife. I have just put two parcels ready. One is for Master , I must not fcell you his name, though, nnd the other is for his sister I've put a beautifully dressed doll, with blue eyes and flaxen hair, a large orange, a new shilling, and a packet of sweets for the little girl, and just the same for her brother, only that instead of a doll I have put a splendid hum-ming-top. If any of you hear that they do nob like my choice just telegraph to me, and I will comein the night and fetch them back, but I'm afraidl sb all h ave n othinglef t to give in place of them. Please besure to put my full address if you do telegraph , as someofmylettershave gone next door, because they had no number on, and as I am not on friendly ternaswith Mr and Mrs Give-them-Jiothing, it ' - t -causes ' unpleasantness. Mrs Santa Claus is calling for tome more f cough drops, so' I must go. A very Merry Christmas to you all, and , be sure you are very good in the happy rew year I hope you will all have, and then you may be srire I shall have a lot of gifts for you next Christmas.
