Applications for Special Claims, Licensed Holdings, etc. : — Chns, Gallagher, For Bonanza, Special Claim, To Arulm. No appearance of applicant. Tlio Clerk stated the plans had not yet been received back from Auckland. Hearing adjourned to Sopfc. 18th. 11. H. Adams, Alameda, Special Claim, Waiorongomai. Mr Adams was present and stated tho shareholders had agreed to accept the terms demanded by (he Thames" High School Board (the claim being situate on the Thames High School Reserve). Application granted. Thornton Walker, Hero, Licensed Holding, To Aroha. (This ground adjoins the Hot Springs Domain and includes portion of the additional forty acres intended for Domain extension, and partly purchased for that purpose,) . Application was made by applicant to have the case further adjourned. The Warden, addressing applicant, said : This land had been taken up a little while back by J. Wiseman, and tho application refused by Warden Stratford, Iherefoic the ground pegged off by the present applicant was not actually open for occupation when he took it up. ITo did not think adjourning the case would in any way assist the matter, nevertheless he would, as applicant wished it, adjourn the healing to October 9th. Applicant appeared and stated that having arranged to amalgamate with the owners of the adjoining claim, known as Morgan's, ho dcsiied <o withdraw his application. Permission to withdraw was granted. John MoL. Murray, Theodolite Chiim, six men's ground. Granted. H. 11. Adams, fcr permission to construct a road at Waiorongomai, Grantc I. J. M. Chambers, machine site, | Omnhu Ctcek, To Arolm. The Warden informed applicant he could not grant the application in the form now before him, as it crossed a creek. Tie must make the creek the boundary, as it had been found where it was allowed to include creeks they were allowed to iill up with tailings, etc. Hearing adjourned to October 9th, to enable applicant to meanwhile consult with his surveyor, H. H. Adams, extension of machine site, Waiorongomai. Granted, subject to certain conditions to be endorsod on the license. Mrs Taylor, Residence Site, allotment No 26, Waiorongomai. Granted. j Thos. Granted. Thos. G. Neiland, Residence Sites, Nos 48 and 49, Waiorongomai. Granted Applications for Protection : C. A* Comes, for protection to work the Champion Lode Extended Special Claim, Tui, with six men, For three months. Granted. J. 11. Keep, for protection for Tui Reduction Works Company, Special Claim, Tui, for three mouths, Mr J. M. Chambers appeared on behalf of applicant. The Warden, addressing Mr Chambers, said : This chiim was granted on 2 1st February last, since which time you have been taking protection up to now, when you come and ask me to legalise it. But I say no. You cannot prove to mo that a pick bas been put in the ground all this timo. Mr Chambers : I cannot; say there has, but we were under the impression up till July, when wo put in the application for protection, that 1 a special claim did not need protecting in the same way as an ordinary claim. Tho Warden : IF you read the con ditions attached to the license you would see that n special claim is subject to tho same provisions as a licensed holding in that respect ; thero is no clnuso giving special exemption from woiking. Mr Chambers ; We were under the impression we had to expend a certain amount of money within a certain period and were prepaied to do so. We hare

expended ft great deal of monoy in bringing Mr Parkes out from England to en-cfc a plant to treat the ore, on this ground, which contains a groat deal of 1 lend, and is very poor in silver, an <1 cannot be treated by any ordinary process. The Warden : I told Comes long ago this ground would have to bo manned. Mr Parkes is engaged at Kttrauguhake, not at To Arohn, and you ask mo to grant you protection because you have got a man working for you seventeen miles off. Application refused. E. Cameron, protection for May Bell, Special Claim, Tui, for four months. Granted. G. E. Ireland, protection for Earl of Aberdeen, liiverdale, and Eiverdalo No. 2, Licensed Holdings, Mr N. Clonry appeared on behalf of applicant, and stated tho ground had all been prospected, the reef found and opened up, and payable oro obtained, but until a road to claim, some sixty chains long had been made, giving access to the ground, men could not be profitably employed on the ground ; and he would ask for protection to work with two men. Adjourned till next Court day, tho Warden stating he would meantime endeavour to visit tho ground, and see how much work had been done. John McLeod Murray, protection for Anglesea claim, about two men's ground, Waiorongomai, for three months. Applicant stated himself and Geo, Devey were the owners of the ground, and had worked it constantly up to the time they applied for protection. Granted. Peter Ferguson, protection for New Era Licensed Holding, Waiorongomai, for three months. Granted. Thos. G- Marlow, prctection to work Success Licensed Holding, No. 2, Waiorongomai, with two men for threo months. Granted. Patrick Sheeby, protection for Belmont Claim, Tui. Granted. At the close of the ordinary Court business, the Warden sold by'auction the right to occupy residence site allotments, Waiorongomai, Nos. 76 and 77 (which had been forfeited by the Mining Inspector). Qeo. Taylor was the purchaser at 12s Cd and £1 2s respectively.
