MINING NEWS.

Makototo — Mr Plumb, Chairman of the Marotolo Mining Co., and Mr Bell, a large shareholder in the Company, have just inspected 1 the mine, ho as to obtain information to decide on the fubmo working. They leport favourably of the workings, and do no' anticipate any great difficulty in obtaining a largo percentage of the bullion. The directors, have; sent parcels of Ihe ore to San Francisco, to Swansea mid to Friebnrg. The 01 c bent to 'Fribco was: assayed by McbPis Price and Co., and the result was the obtaining ot 95 per cent, of the bullion. The reports from Frieburg and Swansea have not yet come to hand.

Thames, Sept. 3. Cai.rooxiak.— Three slopes are now in full swing on Kowe's leader at No. 3 'evel, and colours of crold are seen in the whole of them every breaking down. The leader is , at pi csent rather small, however, so that Hie amount ot quart/- being broken out is not very great, but there is every icason to believe" thab it will prove payable, while the leader will probably open out as the slopes ascend.

Njsw Mamjkau.— The return of oBoz gold from 25 tona of quartz telegraphed on Saturday is the result of the past month's operations, and shows a considerable falling off. This is accounted for, however, by the fact that a good deal of dead work has had to be done^ as the leader hns been a mere formation in some oi the slopes. The quartz is now opening out as stopos go upwards, and the manager is of opinion that the next crushing will bo better. Sylvia (Tararu). — The winze has holed through to the main drive, and the ventilation being now all that could be desired, the contractors haveresumed the work of continuing the drive to cuttheLittle Agnesreef. H. Hayldon, surveyor, for the Melbourne Exhibition, and forwarded to the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. It consists ot three county maps mounted in one, and enables a stranger to at once ascertain the exact position of the different mining centies on this field. The scale is one mile to an inch, and the size of the map is 9 feet in length by 3 feet in breadth.

Saxon. — On the hangingwall slope, ho. 3 level, colours of gold are seen in all the I stopes, and the 3rd pioduccd 61b, fc . picked I stone on Saturday. Colour* ot gold arc being seen on the back sbope footwall reef, the ofher slopc\s are at last reported. The reef at No. 5 level was broken down on Friday, excellent mineral and a few colours of gold were teen. Amalgam on hand to date--1160/.
