HOUSE-BREAKING AND HORSE. STEALING. Timaru, August 27.
At Die Ji. M. Court this morning a lad of fourteen years of age was remanded on a charge ot hou&obi caking and hoi>c-sloaling. lie lias admitted the offences and that ho had been an inmate of the Indubtiial School, from winch he had bolted two years ago. He had since been "swigging" and "knocking about," and " lately \vaa in the employ of a farmer at Makihikibi. On Tuesday he broke into a house during the absence- oi the owner and_, took away X' 3 in money. On Friday evening he rode away to Timaru on one of his employer'^ h'or&es, turning it adrift on reaching town. He was arrcled ne>.t day at Timaru railway station while waiting tor a tiain to continue hi.s joutney North. The prisoner appear,^ to be lather proud oi his achievement.
