RE THOMPSON'S TRACK.

The following extract of the Bay of Plenty Times report of the last meeting of Tauranga County Council (hold on 7th inst.), will be of interest to our readers :—: — Inward Correspondence : — From R, J, Gill, inclosing copies of correspondence between himself and the Minister of Public Works with regard to Thompson's Track. — 1. Letter from fi. J. (iill to Public "Works Department, urging that the Government should provide the funds, in addition to the sum already voted, necessary foy the acceptance of one of the tenders. — 2. Public Works Department to B. J. Gill, Esq., stating that the amount asked for would be placed on the Es+imates, but no tender should be accepted till it was known that the money had been voted ; and that the plans and specifications had been approved of by Government. Telegram from W. Kelly, M.D.R., stating that the sum required to bring the grant for Thompson's Track up to Ll2OO had been placed on the Estimates. Letter from Minister ol Public Works to Mr Kelly, informing him of Vac intention to place the sum required for Thompson's Track on the Estimates. From E. Y. Cox, stating that, as the road via Thompson's Track cuts through several of his paddocks, ho would require compensation before he allowed the road to be made. Such compensation to be for new fences alongside the road, and also an exchange of old road for the land taken from his paddocks. — The Councillors considered that as Mr Cox had at present no road to his place, he should be only too glad to get a good road, without wanting compensation. —Cr Fraser moved that Mr Cox be written to stating that if he, and other property owners on the line of the road, raise these objections and require compensation for fencing, &c, that the old road will be repaired, and all ideas of a road by Thompson's Tiack will be abandoned. That the other proprietors be written to in the same terms, and also the TeAroh.i Town Board, — Seconded by Cr Crawford and cariied. On the motion of Cr Kill en, seconded by Cr Armstrong, the Clerk was instructed to forwaid to the, Minister of Public Works, a copy of the specifications for Thompson's Track, and to inform him that the plans have already been sent to Wellington.
