Dilke's Position.
HE REFUSES TO RETURN TO POLITICAL LIFE.
A good deal of interest is attached to Dilko's position. So many false rumours prevail about him that it is worth while to make the following statement : — Dilke resists the piessuro brought to bear upon him to return to political life. He has been offered the candidature of Chelsea and several more or less safe seats, and declined all. He is nob discouraging inquiry, but promoting it. A collection of lettei's has come into his hand?, which those who have inspected them declare furnish absolute disproof of Mrs Crawfords slory. Dilke's ground is that it being difficult to attack on isolated points, ifc is better to be a little slow in taking the direct offensive. Meanv. hile he will write several articles on the British army and will work for a year on a new edition of "Great Britain." He will go to India next winter and stay with Sir Frederick and Lady Roberts. General Roberts largely shares Dilke's view on the British army, and will give him every facility for investigation. Dilke's position is still very influential.
