A Useful Hoe.
Mr. Maurice Mason, of Taheke, Te Aute, Ilawke's Bay, sends us a description and sketch of a hoe made out of an old spade. lie writes : — Noticing a description of a hoe made from an old scythe blade, in the July numberof your paper, I send you thefollow ing description of a hoe which I make from an old spade. The idea is taken from an old number of the American Agriculturist. In that paper it is called the Lance-headed hoe, the writer making it from tho steel of an old mower-plate, and he remarks thatany one using such an implement will use no other, and I quite agree with him. Take an old worn out or broken handled spade and draw out the solid iron part of the handlo, whero it enters the biaclo, to about half an inch in thickness, lea\ing about six inches or so of socket for tho handlo; then cut oft 1 the sides of the blade in the shape of the letter V, give the shnnk a turn and } ou have a hoc shaped like this.
