Owiiaroa, Saturday. Greemille and party, owners of the " Me and How c " claim, will complete the construction of their 20 chains of tramway early in the ensuing week, and as this will connect the mine with the Smile of Fortune battery, crushing operations will be next in the order of things.

Several teams of horses are now engaged in convoying quartz from the Diamond mine to the landing at Paeroa where it will be .shipped on one of the river steamboats ior transport to and treatment at the Moantairi battery, Thames. This parcel amounts to about 40 tons and when breaking it out, enough gold was seen in the stone to wairant the opinion that the return will be an exceptionally good one. Last Wednesday the tributers in the Keni! worth mine completed the treatment of a 9-ton parcel of second-class ore at Railoy's mill for a return of 96 ounces retorted bullion, which, on being melted, was reduced to 92 ounces. The assay value of this .bullion proved to be 8s per ounce, and the all round return averaged 82s pdr ton, which is not payable.

Wlinnsaiuata £oldficlds. - -Wiianuamata, Saturday. During the whole of the past week the owners of the prospector's mine have been engaged in breaking out a parcel of ore which is intended for shipment to Auckland where it will be treated by Mr G. Fraser with a view to ascertaining its bulk value. The reef is now being broken out to a width of fully 6ft without any sign of tho hanging wall, and both gold and silver are pretty evenly distributed throughout the whole body of the stone. This work is being done by carrying an underhand stope along tho outcrop of the lode, but as soon as the quantity of are required at present is .broken out a start will be made to drive a level and cut the 1 cef at a good depth beneath the surface, which can be done by tunnelling a very short distance. It appears that the so-called "Maori reserve is all open for gold -mining purposes.

Pcffffißff off Surplus Ground. Maritoto, Saturday. This place presented a very busy scene on Monday last, when fully 50 men mustered on the surplus ground, which v.'as thrown off the prospectors' mine at noon on that day. Precisely at 12 o'clock Mr T. H. Mooro fired a gun, which was the prearranged signal for marking off, and all hands were thus enabled to put their pegs into the ground, simultaneously. ( In order to avoid litigation, ifc is said that an amalgamation of interests will take place, and one company formed to work the ground for the benefit of all the persons concerned. Developments are now fairly underway in the prospectors' mine, where- breaking onl ore is the order of the day, and tenders have been called for packing a 10-ton parcel of ore out to the main road, from whence it will be carted to the Thames for testing purposes
