The Congo.
A recent number of the " Vernanlengen," of the Berlin Geographical Society (Vol. XIII., No. 6), contained two papers on the Congo region ; one by Dr. Buttner on his journey from San Sa vador to the Quango and thence to Stanley Pool ; the other by Lieutenant Kund, who, with Lieutenant Tappenbeck, was sent out by the German African Society in 3 884, Their task was to explore the southern tributaries of the Congo, and to study their navigable qualities between Koranga and Kaseai. The length of the journey was, in all, about 3,800 miles, of which 1,600 milea were by water and 2,200 miles by land. They succeeded in finding, between Koango and Kassai, three navigable rivers— the Wambee, Saie, and Kinlu ; and they regard Lukenji, with its people, as practically a new discovery in the Congo baein.
It seems that the Irish bull flourishes even in the tropical climate of India. A well-known Irish peer holding high office lately turned up the corner of a begging letter, and wrote on it for the instruction of his private secretary,- " Reply that there is no answer."
