Stationary Pig-Trough with Cut Off.

When pigs are fed shelled mai/e, and experience teaches that this is the mo^t economical method of feeding corn, good, substantial troughs should be provided The corn, writes ", Picket" in the literal AW Yorker, should be evenly distributed the whole length of the trough, and the pig< be kept away -while this is being doiK. °For this purpose a club i> generally u-od, but as I intend to show, this is not necessary. The sketch (&ee engaging) shews how

riG-TROUGII WITH CUT OFF. a cut off may be arranged, which shuts off the pigs, and at the .same time brings the trough out&ide of the pen. The swing board A, id hung upon s-trong hinges and has a barbed wire fastened along its lower edge. It is raised and the pig& shut off from the trough by means of a lever B, which in the sketch is &ho\v n at the end of the trough to make it plainer, though it should be about the middle. The top of the lever is held out by a forked or notched stick C, hung upon the outside of the building or fence. When the cut-off is down, its lower edge rests against the blocks 1), one of which is shown in the sketch, and is perfectly secure. The baibed wire along its lower edge prevents any attempt of familiarity on the part of the pigs, and al^o induces them to stand back when the cutoff is being raised. This is a good, substantial arrangement and will give infinite satisfaction to anyone who may adopt it.
