The above race meeting 1 came off yesterday under very favourable circumstances. Tiie weather was all that could be desired, a pleasant breeze keeping the day throughout cool and animating. The attendance on the course throughout the day was large ; Ohinemun, and all surrounding districts being well represented, and also a number being present from Thames and Wa:kato. The officials performed the various duties allotted them in a most businesslike and satisfactory manner. The Te Aroha Brass Band, under the leadership of Mr Everitt, performed a number of selections in excellent style during the afternoon. Sergeant Emerson and Constable Berrman were both on the ground, but fortunately their services were scarcely required. There was very little betting on the conrse, but the totalisator was fairly patronised on on each event. Mr Ebert, the proprietor of the publican's booth, provided first class refreshments, and did a good business. Mr Aitken, proprietor of the temperance booth waa also kept busy attending to customers throughout the day. The racing was good, the various events exciting great interest, and the handicappers appear to have done their work well. Soon after 12.30 p.m., the bell wrung up to weigh for the Hurdle .Race, and no less than eight horses faced the starter, Mr McNicholl, who sent them on their journey to a splendid atart, Taylor taking Chevalier to the the front, followed by Tommy, Recruit, Hermit, and the others close up, the firsthurdle being negoitiated in splended style, Tommy took the lead from Chevalier but baulked at the second hurdle, Hermit coming to the ground at the samo obstacle lost his chance, the remainder going in grand style, taking their jumps close together, until Goldsmith called on Daybreak, who* answered gamely, and a- splendid finish ensued between Evening Star and the winner, Recruit third and the rest in the
