KARANGAHAKE.

Raileys Plant. — The clean up for the Sutro mine which took place on Wednesday last, gave a return of 127 ounces of retorted bullion being the product of 28tons of quartz, which was composed of two classes, which were treated separately. No. 2 parcel comprising off 14 tons, was the lowest grade stone obtainable frcm the mine, and was passed through the battery pans, and settlers, for the purpose of preparing the appliances for the treatment of stone of better quality. The yield from this lot was 19 ounces of bullion, estimated to be worth 25s per ounce. No. 1 parcel, amounting to 14 tons, was a fair average sample of the stone that is now being broken out from the reef, and it yielded 108 ounces of retorted bullion, valued at 12s 6d per ounce. Showing that, in this stone, silver preponderates largely. I may state that the value placed on the bullion is only approximate because up to the present its intrinsic worth has not been determined by bank assny. There is no denying the fact, however, that the return has not fully come up to expectation?, but the results prove beyond the shadow of a doubt, thai a much higher percentage of silver has been redeemed than has ever before been saved by the milling process in this district, and I think, the proprietors of tha mill are to be congratulated on the success of their initiatory proceedings.
