THE HALL CASE.
Tb.9 Prisoner Committed for Forgery. m . - Timaktj, September, 7. Thomas Hall was brought u"p at the R.M. Court this morning before Mr J. S. Beswick, R.M , on the charge of forgery. Mr J. White appeared to prosecute, and ' Mr Perry defended. The first cause was a promissory note, purporting to "be eigned by a Mr Melton. The latter gave evidence that the signature on the document was not his, ana ; that he had never given a promissory note to Hall, or Hall aud Mearsom The Manager of the Bank of Mew South Wales, who, held the the note as security, stated that Hall hod deposited the document with him. "Wilson, clerk to Hall and Mason, stated that the bill had been entered in the bill book of the firm, and Bent to the bank. G. Lang Meason, partner ef the prisoner, eaid he knew nothing of the-docu-ment, the financial business being tranpacted entirely by Hall. Mr Perry said that the defence would be reserved, and asked Mr Beswick to commit to Christchurch, which he declined , ■to do. Prisoner was then finally committed to take his trial at the next sittings of the Supreme Court at Timaru, four informations were dealt with before the luncheon adjournment ; but they possessed no special feature, the evidence being, identical in each case.
The Charge of Attempted Murder. Hall and Miss Houston were brought up at 1 o'clock, and finally remanded on 'the charge of attempted murder till Tuesday next.
