OHINEMURI. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Paeroa, Friday.
The usual quarterly meeting of the Ohinemuri Licensing Bench was held in the public hall here, on Saturday, last. Present : Messrs Lipsey, (chairman) Barrett, Logan, Mitchell, arid Shaw. The first business dealt with was the granting of a transfer of Mr J. H. Walsk's license from Owharoa to a new house at Karangahake. Mrs Annie Nicks, as widow of the late John Nicks, wa^ appointed licensee of the Paeroa Hotel, and duly authorised to carry on the business thereof. The Inspector having reported favourably of the improvements made to the Waihi Hotel, since the last sitting of the Bench, the conditional license granted to Mr G. Colebroolc for that house was made absolute. Mr J. Hosie wrote pointing out the want of an hotel at Owharoa and asking the Bench to grant him an accommodation license for a hou9e at that place. Atter a considerable amount of discussion, it was resolved that the application be not entertained, and this being all the business the Bench then adjourned. Mr Daniel Campbell was married at Thames on Tuesday last to Mias Lily Lambert, and th,e happy couple passed through here yesterday, en route for Waihi, where Mr Campbell has been managing a general store for Messrs Philip and son for some time past. In the public hall here on the evenings of Monday Tuesday, and Wednesday last, Professor Lio Medo delivered a series of lectures on Phrenology, and Mesmerism. There was a fair attendance, upon each occasion,.' and the Professor was very happy in his delineation of the characters of several well known resLentswho were bold enough to ascend the platform tor that purpose.
Mr L.M. The opening of Mr J. H. Walsh's new hotel at Karangahake. on Monday last was celebrated by a ball and 9upper provided by the proprietor, and dancing was kept up till the " wee sma hours." During the heavy gale which occurred on Wednesday evening last, the back | entrance to the public hall was blowu open, and considerable damage was done to property belonging to Professor Medo. Amongst the things that came to grief was a plaster cast of the human brain, which it is said cannot be reproduced for less than £10, and even then it would be difficult to get the work done in the colony.
