THE WAIORONGAMAI MINES. EXCELLENT RETURNS. Auckland, July 6.

Mr F. A. White to-day received the followiii telegram from Waiorongomai :— " Since writing lettor, received 38 ounces bullion; total, 149 cmncee bullion." The letter, unfortunately, has not yet come to hand, so that it is uncortain whether the stone from which. the return has been obtained was from, the Provincial or .the Three Fools' reef« The Information received previous to the arrival of " the > telegram was lto tho. effect that ten truck loads had been sent to Firth's, and six truck loads to Fergussonfc battery. The result of the format crushing was 2ozs. 17dwts.~, and the result of the latter crushing > was expected, to be made known yesterday. It is therefore believed. that the splendid return announced by telegram refers to what was treated" at' 'Ferguson's battery. This battery was recently placed, in charge of Mr Wick, who had some alterations made, and the crushing referred to was the on* that he had treated.

Proposed Constitutional Charges. Sir George Grey is never happy unless he has some impoitant move in hand, and his latest idea is certainly a bold one. In the course ot conversation this morning, he informed me that should Ke receive a fair measure of encouragement he will this session propose that an address be presented to the Crown praying that the Constitution Act of this colony be determined after a term (say two years), and that thereafter our Paraliment be allowed to frame its own constitution! Should the British. Parliament agree "to "the repeal of the Constitution Act as applied to this colony, the extinction of the. Legislative Council would be brought about, aud the electors would the a have to determine what form of Government should 'supply ita place. :Sic George conceives , that the' action 'Of the Council in again refusing to t ,pasa measures of .such great, importance as the Gold Duty Reduction Bill and liimi taation of Votes BUI sKouldaa'stet ia' eflfecth "ing the carrying of his proposal^' '"" }<r '
