THE DRINK BILL.

Mr Glover recently said that over £30 could be placed on every letter in the Bible, and then the total sum spent in drink would not be represented. That statement was true 5 and the following illustration of the yearly expenditure on drink will be read with interest : — ■ "To stamp the immensity of tho sum upon yoitr minds, I may my that some patient and persevering gentleman has. dotirited the chapters, verses, words, and letters in tb'e Bible, arid given Us tne following as the result : — There are, he says, in the Bible, 66 books, 1189 chapters, 31,173 verses, 773,692 words, and 3,567,180 letters. I have not tested the accuracy of these figures, but they have b6en received as correct by our religious periodicals, and wo may therefore accept them. With tho money we spent on drink last year we could put — £2,045,454 on each of its 66 books £118,540 „ 1189 chapters £4,330 „ 31,173 verses £174 „ • 773,692 woi (Is £38 „ 3,569,180 letter* Key. C. Garrett."
