OHINEMURI. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Paeroa, Friday.

level.— -Since this work was undertaken the Smile of Fortuhe company's intermediate level has been extended a distance of about severity feel |nd tbe total length of this level is now considerable over 1000 feet. The country through which it is being advanced is of the hardest possible character, And the inflow of water is so great that progress is somewhat slow but the prospectors hope to be able to hole through to a better class of country in a shift. Thistle. — This claim is owned and Worked by Mr Madden who is now engaged in breaking out a crushing from which he expects a payable return. Hidden Treasure.— Whitehead and party have taken a section of this mine

on tribute and have started to break out crushing dirt, from a 'largo lode which yielded a payable return when the ground was being worked by the shareholders.

Rose. — There is some excellent stone coming- to hand from the drive which in now being extended northwards on the No. 2 lode, The whole oE the quarts: obtained from this point is being stacked at the mouth of the level awaiting completion of Mr Ylailly's crushing plant, to which it will be sent for treatment. Diamond. — The winze that is being sunk beneath t!ie floor of the intermediate level, has now attained a depth of 17 feet and the lode here avei aging G inches* in thickness is all composed of good stone some of which gold is freely visible. Sutro. — Within the last few feet of driving a change for the better has made its appearance in the low level tunnel, which is now in, a distance of 6'J feet. This level is being driven along the course of the veef upon which it affords 100 feet of baeUs, and -this will increase as work is advanced southwards. Adeline. — The quartz paddock at ' this mine is being rapidly filled up from the |stopes which are yielding n huge amount of good stone, This is classed ! as it it is broken out. No. 1, of which there is now a good sizud parcel to hand, j will probably be reserved for treatment 1 by Mr Railly's new plant, and the balance ill be dealt with at thclvanhoe battery as soon ay the road is lit tor its transport. Monastery. — A staio was made Jnsf week to open oud upon a largo reef in tlub ground, which io now the property oi Mr A. Hogg, "uho purchased it a i short time since. It was known originally as the Gladys claim, hue was forfeited for non-compliance with the mining regulations and bocaui3 the propel ty of the present proprijtor, as abuve stated. The lode upon v Inch operations are now in progress has l>een proved to contain high peicenta»e» of both gold and --ilvei, and I as the claim is located uithin easy distance of the new crushing plant, the cost of transit on and treat men!) of the quartz should be comparati\cly trifling. Ivauhoe. — The new pel ton wheel which has been substituted for the old \ turbine in connection with this company's j battery is now in position, and the whole plant will be ready to resume ' crushing operations early next week. New Quartz Reduction Works. — Notwithstanding the fact that the weather during the past week has been most unfavourable for outdoor work of every description, good headway has been mado with the construction of the building for this plant, and satisfactory progress is also being made with all the j other works in connection therewith.

Silverton. — In the level going south of the winze the reef has split up the hanging wall portion, trending away towards the Amaranthe Claim, and the footwall portion keeping its regular course. Diiving on the last-mentioned portion, which measures about 2it in thickness, is now in progress, and gold is frequently visible in the stone broken out. Kimberly. — The prospecting level in this claim is nosr in a distance of 40ft, but up to the piesenfc nothing of importance has bren encountered. Union. — In this mine the low level has been driven along the course of the lode for a distance of 100ft, and it has maintained an average thickness of 3ffc throughout. A parcel of about ten tons of first-class ore is now ready for transit to Auckland, preparatory to being sent to the Old Country j and a crushing of fifty tons of second-class quarts will be sent to the Martha battery for treatment next week. Martha Extended. —The stopos are yielding a large amount of good crushing dirt, upon which twenty head of stampers are running continuously, an. I the crushing is shaping for a return that will be somewhat beyond the average. Rosemont. — Since starting the low level a distance of 250ft has been ac complished by wages men, but now that the country is all that can be desiicd for tunnelling, the manager has let a contract to Soreuson and party for extending the level a fuither distance of 250ft for the sum of 5s per foot. Work in the Amaranth and Nil Desperandum has been suspended, and there is nothing of special interest to chronicle from any of the other miues.

Hollis and party, who have got the Waitekauri mine and battery on tribute, cleaned up yesterday for the return of 104ozs retorted gold. This is the result of three weeks' operations, and will give the tributers a handsome dividend after all expenses have been liquidated. Ralp and party's Maungaware battery is running full time in reducing quartz from the Young New Zealand and Diamond mines ; and the ahovt on the plateS is good enough to warrant a highly remunerative return. From the Eclipse claim Harry Skene is obtaining stone which is said to be worth several dwts to the pound 5 and on the whole things generally in this district are looking very promising.
