GOVERNMENT INSURANCE ASSOCIATION.
Wellington, June 22. Tiik adjourned meeting of policyholder*, of the Government Insurance Association this cvoningwas well attended. Sir J. Yogel presided. Tne discussion on ]Slr Bell's resolution, " That it is desirable that the business of the Association should be ie turned to the charge of the Government," was resumed. Messrs Dargaville, Kolleston, and Scobie McKenzie spoke in favour of the motion. Mr J. Duthie, who recently accepted a scat on the Board as a nominated member, spoke against the motion, but favoured the Government having preponderance of power. Mr (I. Fi-her and Mr W. T. L, Travors opposed tho motion. The motion was then put u ith tho following result :— For : Hands held up, 41; proxies, 72: total, 116. Against: Hands held up, 3S ; proxies, 206: total, 211. The motion was therefoie declared lost. Messrs Dargaville and Shiimski demanded a poll. Mr Bell seconded. The following motion was then put:-"!. That the Board should be leducod to m\ members.of whom three should be elected and the other thiee should be the Solicitor-General, the Secretary to the Tieasnry, and either the Public Trustee or the Commi-fnoner of Property Tax ; thtee to be quorum if the chairman be pie-ent, four it the eh urman be not present! 2. That the. Gcivei nment appoint one of the members of the Board to be chairman. 3. That each olhuial mombevof the Board should leceive <m honorarium of fifty "uinea;?, and each elected member should "receive 100 guineas per annum, and the chairman such an addition ;is the Board may fiv, not to exceed C2OO. 4. That the nominated raombeivs at present on tho Board thall cea-e to by members, of the Board on the day the Act comes into operation, and th ill not bo ie appointed. 5 That power shoul 1 be given to the Board, at its option, to giant compensation to oih>evs on retirement, and to make compassionate allowances to the widows and young children of o/hceis who die whilst in the service, (j. That in ca«e oi any fresh appointments ot the geneial manager and tho actuary the Board s powers shall bo exercised, subject to thcappioval of the Government." 'Thee wire lost, and a poll demanded Mr Fisher then moved :— " 1 'I hat the Central Boatd be reconstituted, and that it consist of seven members, four to be elect3d by the policyholders, and three to he nominated by the Government— the three norn mated members not to be officers of the Government. 2 That tho Board so recon vStituted shall elect it, own chairman ; that the honorarium be fixed at £100 for each member of the Board, except the chairman of directors, who ehall receive £:}OO per annum.'' A show of hands wag taken as follow .-—For 17, proxies 206: total 223; against 14, proxies 06 : total, 70. The motion was de-jlared carried, and a poll was demanded Sir Julius intimated that the poll would take place this day four weeks.
