The Unemployed at Hokitika.
WELWGToy, March 27. The Public WorkB Department has received information from the West Coast re the reported strike of unemployed. It appears that the matter was much exaggerated. A few men left, being dissatisfied with the rate of wages, but 75 are still at work, and only a few men have beeD had up for drunkenness. Of 100 men originally out, 25 have preferred to stay in Wellington and Greymouth, or have left work. The report of a strike was a gross exaggeration.
Mr Stead cays— "There is nothing like being in gaol for escaping bores, and getting on with work." Most editors will agree with him,
