Thames, The body of a elderly man was found in the Thames river at JDuok creek this morning, and is supposed to be that of James Cochrane, who disappeared from Waruhoe on Saturday last. A parcel of If ton§ of quartz, brought from the Alexandra claim, Waitekauri, by lialph and party, has yielded 6£ozs gold, worth £16 18s. Huntley aud party, tributers in the Waitekauri mine, have sold one ton of quartz to the Smelting Company y^or £33j 11s. Its contents being gold Boz 3dwte Bgrs, silver 4oz 18dwta. : Cambria.—Bolbs of specimens were obtained this morning xrom the hanging wall leader in 4he winze below No 3 level. ANNUAL MEETING SMELTING CJMPANY. The annual meeting of the Smelting Company was held to-day, and the]old directors were re-elected. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, said: It would be observed from it t\m\ the smelting process wat» still on trial, ho' that no opinion could be expressed as to the probable result; however it had been successful at Sunny Corner and elsewhere and the directors were sanguine. A delay had arisen in starting work owing to La Monte's missapprenhenaious with regard to the treatment of Cambria and their" baser ores ; Mr LaMonte having informed the directors that such quartz could be treated by the smelting furnace, hut the manager found it would be necessary to erect a roasting furnace before it could be treated ; the roasting ,furnace was now bdng, constiucted as speedily as possible, and the directors hoped it would be in full- working order within a few weeks.; Me Me Cosh Clarke and othets coir plained-00 the assay te3tß, arid,thought ,the. directors should haVe takenldtlier steps to prove th& value of quartz as against assay. ; THE AUCKLAND CUP.
