NEW ZEALAND SMELTING COMPANY.

A meeting of the directors of the above company wps held on Wednesday for the purpose of making, final arrangements for the starting of the first smelt ing furnace in the colony for the reduction of gold and silver ore, Mr Sterne, the smeltor, from Silverton, whose services have been placed at the disposal of the company for a period of six or seven weeks, was present and met" the directors. Mr Harris an assayerjfiom Silverton, and Mr 'Lane, 1 who'superintended the erection of the, Thames furnace, were also present to confer with the directors as to the commencement of operations.
