THE LAMONTE FURNACES.

From the Town and Country Journal of the l7th inst we take the following :—: — Sunny Corner. — The mining mansitfer Sunny Corner Company reported fu l ho week ended 2n<l instant : — Five siiulieis have been co itinuonsly in blast, and have reduced 077 tons ore. Total value of bullion returned for the week, £3780, exclusive of fine dnst. Novanda Silvermining Company : I bog to confirm my wire to you, viz, : — Stopped furnace yesterday, cutting her out to increase capacity ; will start to-morrow. On Monday night she was going fairly, but thought it better to stop, cut her out, and give her a fresh start. You will observe that the ore now being sent from the mine assays considerably less than what bad been already roasted. 1 shall put through the smelter all ore which is at present roasted, but although I anticipate the furnace will work much better when re-started, I question if the financial outcome of bullion will cover cost. Silverton. — A correspondent reported, October 1 : — The prospects of the field have brightened considerably. There is now plenty of water. The dams finished are full, and abundance of water is to be got; from the soakages in the creeks. Prospecting is going on very vigorously, and we may expect, to hear of some valuable finds in the next few months. The smelrer at the Pinnacles is running well, reducing a large quantity of ore daily with a good percentage of silver. The ■ Bay , Dream smelter is continuing to run well. The amount, of ore treated .last week i was 130 tons, the yield of silver from which wjll be about , 12,000 pas. * A -tliird parcel" of refined silver (6(k)oozs.j lfft here in Saturday's coach. Some 10

tons of silver* lead bullion, were sen away a,t the early part of the week ti Melbourne for refining there; the suppl; of silver lead bullion exceeding the pre sont* oapaoity of the refinery here These' ; facts,' coupled witu the ver favourable balance-sheet recently pub lished, should make these shares ris< considerably. Speely dividend* toa^ reasonably be expected; — Broken Hil shares have taken a decided rise, Jane are now quoted at abont£2o. The firm tone has resulted from the favourable returns of the ore recently sent « tc: Melbourne for treatment. Ore of 8 very rich ''kind is being raised in the Maybell North and other adjoining claims. Some of the ore from this mine realised in England the grand figure of £1942 per ton. On the Corona line sinking is still bein^ carried on ; but no good results have yet been arrived at. Some little excitement was caused in the early part- of the week by reports oi valuable finds in Grandjoan's shaft ; but -they have not been confirmed.
