increased size. Colonist. — The quartz from this mine now being treated at the battery is of payable quality, and shaping much as last month. The contractors (Jeffrey and party), for breaking out 800 tons of quartz, are m»king very good progress with the work in hand.

Silver Kino — Two men are still employed Waking out quartz, which it is believed will prove payable, and some nice gold is to be seen in the stone. Silver Queen,— About 12 tons of quarts have now been broken out from this mine from which samples have been

taken and are now being treated. Lonb Hand.— -The cross-cut is ."till being continued in kindly looking country for gold. #alkn.v (Late Lucky Hit).— Four men are at vrork in this ihine, two on What is Known as No. 1 leader, and two on No. 2 do., breaking- out test parcels. In forking on No. 1 some nice gold Was showing this week. About 10 tons of quartz from each is now on hand, also a parcel of 5 tons has been broken out from what is known as the Inrerness

reef in this claim. Waiouongomai.— A sample of stone from this mine, tested at the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, for ailrcr, wm found to contain that mettl at the rate of 6o« lldwts per ton, and proved io be rich in lead, the report of the assayer bjtng that the sample tested was worth 'at the rate of 4201bs of lead to the ton.
