EPILEPSY THE CAUSE OF DEATH.
London, Mcirch 28. Telegrams received from Cannes this afternoon regarding the death of the Duke of i Albany state that His Royal Highness died at two o'clock this morning in a fit, brought on by injuries sustained from a fall met i with while- at the house of the Nautical > Club, Cannes. He slipped on the stairs of the club-house, and sustained an injury to the knee. He was removed to Captain Percivall's residence, close by, and put to bed. Nothing serious was feared, and lie read the papers, conversed freely with those around, and partook ot supper. Dr. Boyle was in attendance, and tlcpt in the same room, and at two o'clock in the morning he way startled by the J)uke's heavy breathing, and found him in an epileptic fit. lie died in six minutes, in the arms of his host, Captain Percivall. The immediate cause of death was effusion of blood on the brain. He was previously m splendid health, and wrote cheerfully to his w ife on Thursday. Shu i& at Claiemont, awaiting her expected confinement.
How the Queen Received the News. The Queen is seriously prostrated by the news, and the ox-Empress Eugenie was with her for several hours. Her Majesty's projected visit to Darmstadt, Germany, has been abandoned in consequence of the Prince's death. It is announced that the Duke's- body will be brought to England, to be interred at Frogmore, Windsor.
London, March 29. Profound emotion and universal sympathy is being manifested throughout the United Kingdom at the intelligence of the death ot the Duke of Albany. The Queen visited the Duchess at Claremont today. Her Iloyal Highness is bearing the .shock well, though near her confinement.
Condolence With Her Majesty. Addresses ts H< r Majesty, conveying the condolence of Parliament, will be moved on Monday by Earl Granville in the House of Lords, and by Mr Gladstone in the House of Commons.
Alleged Apoplectic Seizure. London, March 30. The official bulletin of the Duke of Albany's death attributes it to apoplexy. The marriage of Prince Louis of Bnttenburg with the Princess Victoria of Hes^eUarmstadt w ill, of course, bo postponed.
Taking Home the Remains. It is expected that 1I.R.H. the Prince of Wales ■« ill a) rive at Windsor on Wednesday next with his brother's body.
Victorian Marks of Respect. Mjiijiouiixj;, March 29. Mr James Service, the Premier, has telegraphed to the Secretary of State a message ot condolence with the Queen in her bereavement. General reference was made in the local churches to-day to the death of the Duke, and the " Dead March " was played. Some of the edifices were draped in black. Melbourne, March 31. — In consequence of the death of the Duke of Albany, the proposed farewell banquet to the Marquis of Normanby and other festivities in honour of His Excellency's departure have been postponed.
