LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
SAMOA. To the Editor of THE SU#. Dr Thompson's observations on Samoa and conditions there make interesting reading, especially so with regard to the Administration, and the cause given as accounting for a "certain amount of criticism." The Proliijbition issue does not apply to the natives,' at any rate, for a letter I received last week states that they have declared a boycott, on all European goods, except sugar and soap, as a protest against the high prices, and an idea they have that the array of officials considered necessary to run the country and the cost of same is excessive and unnecessary. My information is that the New Zealand mandate is not at all what you might call popular. I have not seen any mention of the boycott in the papers yet; in fact, there is very little Samoan news at any time. —I am, etc., A.O.G.
