LATE SPORTING.

N.Z. TROTTING ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association was held this afternoon, there being present—Messrs .1. H. Williams (chairman), J. Samson, W. 11. Denton, B. \V. Short, and 11. \Y. Kitchtngham. The election of officials for the ensuing season resulted as follows: —President, Mr I>. Selig; vice-president, Mr 11. F. Nicoll; lion, treasurer, Mr J. 11. Williams; actingchairman, Mr J. H. Williams; licensing committee, Messrs W. H, Denton and W. J. M. Hopkins; colours committee, Messrs 11. F. Nicoll and J. 11. Williams; appeal committee, Messrs P. Selig, 11. \Y. Kltchlugham, and ,1. 11. Williams; foreign horse committee and examiners, Messrs W. H. Denton, J. M. Samson, C. 1". Mark, and N. A. Armstrong; auditor, Mr It. L. Hicks; Stipendiary stewards committee, Messrs P. Selig and H. F. Nicoll. Mr Denton referred to the absence of Messrs Selig and Nicoll in England, and the consequent shortage, of city members of the board. There was a lot of committee work to be done, and only two Christchurch members to deal with it. There was nothing in the rules debarring a nonmember of the. board holding a position such as that of lion, treasurer. He moved that Mr \V. Hopkins he elected us lion. treasurer and a member of the Licensing Committee. Mr Kitchingham thought the board had no power to appoint Mr Hopkins as treasurer, but there was no reason why be should not be on the Licensing Committee. Mr Williams agreed with Mr Ivitchiughnm's contention, and thought the appointment of Mr Hopkins might lead to complications. The position was got over by the election of Mr .1. 11. Williams to the position of lion, treasurer, and -Mr Hopkins to the Licensing Committee. The Commissioner of Taxes sent word that the Income tax would not lie made retrospective, but would only be made from last season. -It was resolved to thank die Commissioner for bis information. The Waimate Plains Club advised the I board that it had lodged nil appeal against I the decision arrived at by the association I in the inquiry into the club's conduct of its Caster Meeting. It was decided that Mr I Williams be appointed to represent the board at the hearing of the Waimate Plains T.C. appeal case, which is to be held in Wellington on September X\.
