LADIES' TOURNAMENT. Prtu Amodation. GISBORNIv, September 0. The Ladies* Hockey Championship Tour- . nament was continued to-day, when Hie j two lending teams in Section A, Canterbury and Poverty Hay A, met. The welithcr was | ideal. The match, which was one of Ihe most memorable played in Poverty liay,! was watched by a crowd of between live and ] six thousand. The almost enthusiasm prevailed from the openTng bully to tlic Anal ; whistle. The game was of n most even i nature. Canterbury, who again hail the ser- I vices of .Miss Hossiter, attacked for the ] greater part of the lirst spell, much play i taking place in front of the Poverty liay: goal. After one scramble, Miss Ritchie shot a beautiful goal for Canterbury. In the '■ second half Poverty bay had the advantage, ] and about half way through the spell Miss K. Hei shot a good goal for Poverty Hay I amid a scene of great enthusiasm. The I game caused great excitement, but the final whistle blew without further score, the match ending in a draw—one all. The match was preceded by a game be- , Iwecn Manawatu and Wellington, which i resulted in a draw, three goals all. Misses Martin (2) and Williams scored for Wellington, and Miss Pitt for Manawatu. To-morrow Poverty Hay A meet Auckland, the winners of Section H, for the championship.
