LADIES' TOURNAMENT. Press Association. C.ISBORNE, September fi, The ladies' hockey championship tournament was continued to-day under unpleasant conditions. A cold southerly wind blew across the ground, and frequent showers of rain fell. The second halves of the last two games, Mauawatu v. Hawke's Bay ami Poverty Hay B v. Auckland were played in almost continuous rain. The attendance was estimated at 1500. The grounds were in good order. Results: — A SECTION. Hawke's Bay beat Manawatu by I goals to 2. The game was interesting throughout, hut the Hawke's Bay players were much too good for their opponents. Hawke's Hay's work was last and bright, and they were superior in every class of game. Miss llerlihy (31 and Miss Lean (11 scored for the winners, and Misses Pitt and Kersall for the losers. Canterbury had a bye. Poverty Hay A beat Wellington by 1 goals to 2. The game was a first-class exhibition throughout, both sides showing good combined play. For the winners, three goals were scored by Miss Pearce and one by Miss Hill. Miss Williams scored both goals for Wellington. B SECTION. Auckland beat Poverty Bay B by 1 goals to 0. F'rom the opening hits the northerners showed superiority and the result nevur was in doubt, the pretty passing rushes and quick runs of the winners gaining much applause. The scorers were Misses Lowe, Hamlin, Lamb, and Tanner. Wanganui beat Wairarapa by 3 goals to 2. The game was not particularly interesting, and play generally was not up to the standard of other matches played during the afternoon. For Wanganui, Miss Perritt scored three goals. Miss Orr scored two for Wairarapa.
