VALEDICTORY.
HON. D. BUDDO FAEEWELLED. Owing to their departure from the district, tho Hon. I>. Buddo, formerly M.P. for Kaiapoi, and Mrs Buddo, were accorded a complimentary farewell concert in the Institute Hall, Rangiora, last evening, by citizens and friends residing in the borough aud county. The Mayor (Mr O. I. Jennings) presided. On the platform with him were the Mayoress, Mr F. Horroll (chairman of the Rangiora County Council), Mr W. A. Banks (chairman of tho Rangiora High School Board), Cr H. Boyd, Mr R. Ball, and Mr W. McGi-uer.
The Mayor, In presenting Mr Buddo with three pieces of silver plato, suitably inscribed, said that he trusted that their guests were leaving tho district only for a season. Mr Buddo had promised him that he would still be found oh the local bowling green, and that he would be present in Rangiora on market days. Their guests came to Fernside 29 years ago, and had resided in Rangiora for 17 years. Mr Buddo's public career, through the years that he had been in the House, and, prior to that, on local bodies, had been perfectly clean and honourable. He asked Mr and Mrs Buddo to accept a silver tray, fruit basin aud spirit lamp and kottle. Messrs F. Horrell, W. A. Banks and R. Ball also expressed good wishes for Mr Buddo's future.
Mr Buddo, in replying, said that lie was exceedingly pleased that they had coupled the name or' Mrs Buddo iu the presentation, for, after all, she was tho principal wheel in tho coach. It was over 30 years sinco he came to Rangiora. What ho had done in that time seemed so little to him, and he wished that lie could have done more. lie thought that there was a bright future before Eangiorn. No town of its size had as many parks, chilis, or facilities for fishing, shooting, and mountaineering, lie was leaving Rangiora solely for business reasons, and he would probably be back again. Neither lie nor Mrs Buddo had the idea of leaving the district altogether.
