SOUTH WAIMAKARIRI RIVER BOARD.

The Sontli Waimakariri River Board met yesterday, there being present:- Messrs 11. E. Peryman (in the chair), F. K. Jones, A. S. Bruce, T. Leslie, J. P. \V. Lee, W. P. Spencer and C. 17. Opie. The overseer's report stated that there had been two floods in the month, although no damage had been done to the upper works. Work on plantations had been proceeding satisfactorily.—The report was adopted. It was decided to authorise the transfer of block- 30 to the river reserve from H. Spencer to W. Calder. An application for a contribution to the War Memorial Fund was held over until the next meeting of the board. In answer to a question, the chairman stated that nothing had been done by the Visiting Committee for some time. The members had not decided upon a definite; course of action as yet. Mr Jones suggested that the whole board | should undertake the inspection of the reserves once per annum. The reserves could be visited in relays and in this way the i whole of the reserves could be inspected in one day. It was resolved that Messrs Opie, Spencer and Leslie draw up a programme for a oneday visitation, and that each two members take six reserves. Mr Leslie suggested that, as members of the board would probably have to give evidence before a Parliamentary Committee on the Waimakariri Harbour Hill, introduced by Mr D. Jones, M.P., members should visit Hock Ford to become acquainted witli the facts of the. case.—lt was resolved that members of the board motor out to Itock Kord on September 2.1. The chairman complained that the board was losing a considerable amount of interest on rents, which tenants were not paying until three or four months alter they were due. —It was decided that a II days' limit •lie given, and that after that date interest be added. The Department of Lands and Survey wrote complaining that floods occurred on Mr Edgar Wilson's property at Belfast as a result of one of the board's culverts being washed away.—lt was pointed out that the matter did come under the jurisdiction of the hoard.
