Tho curator of Iho Christchurch Museum lias received a number of German ration tickets froyi Mr It. P. .Karl, of Christchurch, and a lamprey has been presented by Mr d. Coles, Christchurch. Two new acquisitions of considerable interest aro two casts of prehistoric human skulls. The first is a restoration of a Monsterian skull. The Ministerial!, or Ncand erthal, man liv Oil in the otouc Age, and the remains have been found mostly in Western Kurope. The other is a Taigai skull, whiiJi was found in Queensland, Australia. This skull is very like that of the Australian aboriginal of to-day. The difference is that tho’Talgai skull lias very pronounced teolh and protruding jaws. In this respect it is considered to bo the most primitive of human remains except the Piltdown skull. It is found in the Pleistocene series of geological formation. Tho skulls are at present on view in tho, now acquisitions case. Among the farms to change hands in the Mctlivcn district during the past week were those of Messrs A. Orr and \V. Morgan, two of fli<' oldest settlers in the district. The former, consisting of Tat) acres, was sold at £-11 per acre, and Hie latter, BTj acres, at over £3l.
