MEAT EXPORT MATTERS.

A meeting- of sheepfarmers was held I at Tiniaru on Saturday, Mr George! Murray, of Braemar, Lake Tekapo, '. being- in the chair. I The meeting was called by the Canterbury Shcepowners' Union, with a view to the formation of a local com-! mittee of sheepfarmers, who would I meet when necessary in order that matters especially affecting South Canterbury, and any question of vital importance to the shecpi'arming industry! generally, might be fully discussed, and', the views of South Canterbury be ade-j, quately brought before the central executive. Keen interest was shown in the various matters-brought forward, and the advantages to sheepowners of combined action, ami efficient representation, were dwelt upon by several speakers. j' The following were elected to the committee: Messrs George Murray ! (chairman"), 11. B. S. Johnstone, li. I Neil], H. Elworthy, E. E. Guinness, J.| lanes, F. 11. Smith, J. Cameron and W. ! Preston. , Before closing the general meeting, -and going into committee, the secretary i said that lie had been asked to place before those present the motives that had actuated the Canterbury Sheepowners' Union and Canterbury Sheepowners' Federation executives iu their action regarding the granting of a license to Armour and Co. lie stated i the case as put forward by the various i bodies who are in favour of free competition, and said that the attitude; taken up by the executive in this matter ! was prompted by an honest desire to act

in the best interests of tlio industry they represent.

After a full discussion on (lie various | points raised, the following resolution, proposed by Mr E. R. Guinness and seconded by 'Mr 11. 11. S. Johnstone, was carried, with only two dissentients:— "That this meeting considers it essential that free competition be allowed for our produce, and that the action taken 1 by the executives of the Canterbury! Shcepowners' Union and Shcepowners' Federation, regarding the granting of a license to Armour and Co., of Aus-! tralasia, Ltd., bo fully endorsed." !
